Origin
The obverse image depicting Lady Liberty was inspired by Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ design for the legendary 1907-1933 Double Eagle coin.
The reverse image with the family of bald eagles symbolizing American family values was developed much later, in 1986, by Miley Busiek Frost.
The coins created after 2021 have a redesigned reverse, depicting a side profile of a bald eagle.
