Origin

• The obverse image depicting Lady Liberty was inspired by Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ design for the legendary 1907-1933 Double Eagle coin.
• The reverse image with the family of bald eagles symbolizing American family values was developed much later, in 1986, by Miley Busiek Frost.
• The coins created after 2021 have a redesigned reverse, depicting a side profile of a bald eagle.
